Adding Details To Your Model Tank

by Victor Epand

Assembling model tanks can be great fun and informative as well. The only problem that you may run into is that the stock color that they come in may not necessarily appeal to your tastes. If you would like to do away with the basic decals and add a custom paint job then detailing sounds right up your alley. There are many different options you can choose from when customizing your model. You can change it from top to bottom if you so choose.

All it will take is a little bit of extra parts and accessories and you will have a model tank design you can call all your own. Painting your model is just one of the many ways to begin your changes. Rather than painting your tank a solid color you can easily add a camouflage paint scheme. It will take a little bit of creativity, but you will just need to make a few different masks if using spray paint. If you will be hand painting your model then it can be even easier to create a camouflage look.

You may have to add primer to your model to help the paint adhere properly. If you do then you can alternate between either black and gold primer or white and silver. This will help add different shades to your paint. If you are looking to add a bit of texture to the model you can easily achieve this by carefully roughing up the outside of the model with a piece of very fine grit sandpaper.

If you do not mind a little bit of extra work you might even consider creating your own unit insignia. For those who are not in the military, these insignia are what let other soldiers know what unit the tank is attached to. You can get decal sheets from office supply stores and then you just need print the correct unit insignia in the scale to which your model has been built. This can allow you to show your support for military units of your choosing.

Please add
your comments.

If you are a big sports fan or know someone who is you can also dress the tank in your favorite team's colors and add their logos to it as well. No matter what sort of modifications in the paint job or with the decals you choose to try. Just make sure that you give it thought before hand. Print your custom decals out on regular paper first to ensure that your scale is right. Before you know it you will have an awesome looking model tank that is a one and only.
